Baja California, mainly referred to as Baja, is the furthest North West state in Mexico. It is known for its extensive coastlines in the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. There has been much raving about why people should invest in this neighboring state, but I am here to share seven reasons why you should not invest in Baja’s real estate.
1. If experiencing beautiful sunrises and sunsets from your bed is not your thing, do not purchase a home in Baja. Many of the new developments are located right on the beach, and many are designed so that bedrooms and main living spaces face extensive ocean views.
2. If being immersed in a completely different culture, but at the same time, being around people who are fluent in English and understand the American culture doesn’t sound attractive, then Baja is not your thing.
3. If you think driving 30 to 90 minutes out of the main metropolitan area is far, then Baja is not your thing. Many of Baja’s most amazing developments are within a 30-to-90-minute drive from Downtown San Diego, so you are a short drive home but, at the same time, far enough out of the city’s congestion and traffic.
4. If eating delicious tacos doesn’t sound appealing, then Baja is not your thing. With the best carne asada tacos in Mexico at about $2 USD a piece, you may happily gain a pound or two.
5. If swimming in calving lagoons around the most fantastic ocean creatures, including gray whales, sounds scary, then Baja is not your thing. The famous oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau even called the Sea of Cortez the “World’s Aquarium” because of its immense fauna and flora diversity.
6. If paying less than $500,000 USD for a luxury condo with a multimillion-dollar view sounds like a rip-off, then Baja is not your thing.
7. If you know you will only visit your property a few weeks a year, and you will be using it as a short-term rental that will pay for your mortgage and more, but you are not interested in a little extra money, then investing in Baja is not your thing.
So now you know, most of us who have an investment property down there would appreciate it if you stayed away; we prefer to keep all its beauty to ourselves. But if I cannot change your mind with this email, don’t hesitate to contact me. If you purchase or sell a property in Baja, you might as well do it with an experienced real estate agent who also calls Baja her home state.
